Bloomsbury Festival: Song and Dance Club
Conway Hall, Main Hall, WC1R 4RL , [Venue Details]Drawing from archives associated with Charles Dickens and publications by his friend and collaborator John Oxenford, The Capability Consort will perform the songs and dances associated not only with the famous author but also with his literary characters, which acquired a life of their own.
The 1850s reflected the consolidation of both a ‘Dickensian’ view of London and the world and a reworking of the ‘national story’ in the form of folk songs and Elizabethan music.
The audience will be invited to learn some of the dances and join in with one of the ballads from the era.
All guests attending in costume will receive a free (single use) drink voucher.
